What to Wear to a Boudoir Shoot

As a boudoir photographer, one of questions I get the most is, “what should I wear to my boudoir shoot?”.

My best answer to this question? Keep it simple.

Boudoir photography focuses on you - your skin and the light that shapes your body. While your clothing choice can add some personality to your photos, it is not what makes these photos so stunning. While outfits for boudoir photo shoots are fun and sexy, they are not something I put a lot of emphasis on in my studio.

I shoot a lot of nude or partially nude photos, so finding the perfect outfit is not as important as you may think. Start by selecting a great panty.

A panty that flatters your booty will do best. My favorite is a high-cut Brazilian thong. High-waisted panties work great too. If those are not something you like, you can’t go wrong with a simple, black, cotton thong.

I am going to leave you one piece of advice when picky a panty - don’t get too stringy on the waistband. Having a little something to grab creates so much more shape!

However, if you are not comfortable being photographed nude or just in a panty, I would recommend a sexy bra and panty set, or a bodysuit. There are so many pieces out there that will hide anything you’re not comfortable exposing to the camera, while keeping it in a classy fashion.

The camera loves textured materials such as lace and sheer fabrics, so keep that in mind when choosing your pieces!

Here’s a few inspiration pictures if you’re opting to go for something with a little more coverage.

If you’re feeling extra spicy, bring a pair of heels with you! 3 inches or higher work best. But, if you are not into this or don’t own any, this it totally optional. You will have amazing photos both with or without them.

Sessions with me are about making you feel incredible in your own skin, and are not about what you are wearing. While pre-planning your outfit choice is helpful, it is not something you should be overthinking or stressing about. One outfit choice (even just a pair of panties!) is enough to have a session that will rock your world!
